We had a soap-making workshop at our school with an organization called Soap Opera. It was held in our chemistry lab where there were people from soap opera come over to teach how to make organic soap from refined oil, lye and other natural products. This idea of the workshop emerged from Love Ocean Life (LOL) club at our school, which I am a leader of with two of my peers, about changing the store-bought soaps which are filled with chemicals in our school to organic soaps. Since we are a club aiming to conserve marine life and ecosystem, we decided to make organic soap so that it does not harm the marine ecosystem when it ends up in the oceans. Therefore, we decided to bring a change in our school first and then implement it in other areas. At the end of the workshop, as leaders of the club, we came up with an equipment/material list and procedure, so that we can perform this task and make soaps in our own time.
